FEATURE ONSCREEN INTERVIEW
MY BIG FALAFEL
EGYPTIAN WEDDING
INTERVIEW WITH DIRECTOR
PETER TAKLA

An Egyptian-American Wedding
Imagine entering a beautiful Egyptian American wedding, where two worlds come together and are enriched by love, family, and new traditions. The moment you walk through the doors, you can feel the excitement in the air.
You hear the deep rhythm of drums, the lively music, the clapping of hands, and the laughter of family and friends. A joyful zaffa announces the arrival of the bride and groom, and suddenly the entire room comes alive. Guests cheer, smile, dance, and celebrate as two people begin their life together.
Then you see the bride. Her beautiful wedding dress catches the light as she walks into the room, surrounded by the people she loves. The groom stands proudly beside her, and the joy on their faces says everything. It is a moment filled with excitement, pride, and a little bit of happy disbelief that this long awaited day has finally arrived.
The wonderful aromas of the food drift through the room. Fragrant spices, warm bread, rice, grilled meats, savory dishes, and beautiful Egyptian sweets fill the air. Traditional favorites sit alongside American wedding dishes, creating a table that feels like both cultures have found a place together.
The celebration continues with music and dancing. Egyptian songs blend with American favorites, and generations come together on the dance floor. Children dance beside their grandparents, friends laugh together, and joyful zaghareet rise above the music.
This is the beauty of an Egyptian American wedding. It is not about choosing between two cultures. It is about bringing them together and creating something that belongs to the couple and their families.
It is a celebration of where they come from, where they are going, and the love that brought everyone into the same room.
Two cultures. Two families. One beautiful celebration of love.
