Jen G’s Music View

Bread of Stone is a band that has given of themselves musically, physically, and mentally to sharing the gospel across the United States and into Indonesia. This band has shown God’s love by being a part of the rebuilding of homes in Louisiana, as well as producing and giving away thousands of copies of their powerful album in a predominantly Muslim country. Bread of Stone has stepped outside the boundaries of their comfort zone and into unfamiliar territories, sharing with all who will listen the Bread of Life they’ve found through Jesus Christ.

Jen G: So, when did you guys form BOS, and how did you come up with the name?

Ben: Bread of Stone was founded in 2004. The name came from the idea that we are just stones (useless) that God has turned into bread (life-giving), to minister and to spread the good news of the Gospel.

Jen G: How did your friends get involved?

Sean: My church had a festival that Ben and Bill came to play at a few times. They stayed and practiced at our church for about a week for a tour they were getting ready to go out on, and I got to know them really well. They asked me to go out on the road with them and see if it was something I would be interested in doing, and I loved it. They were also looking for a drummer, and I knew Jeremi was an amazingly awesome drummer, so I recommended him. He came out to audition and fit in perfectly.

Jen G: How has working together inspired your sound and direction in ministry?

Bill: Well, actually, Sean and Jeremi didn’t join us until after the Letting Go record was done. Some of the sound and direction came from our producer, Tony Morra, along with originating members Ben and Bill. It’s been great to work together with the guys in the band. As a team, we are able to be more productive in the ministry.

Jen G: I think it’s amazing that you guys were involved with the Petra Farewell Tour! What was it like to be a part of that?

Ben: It was such a blessing for us to be a part of something that grand. At that time, the band was young, and we loved every moment of it. We got to see just about everything there was to see in the U.S. and Canada.

Jen G: What did BOS learn from the experience?

Bill: We learned so much from the Petra guys. They had so much experience in the music scene after all those years, and yet they were still humble people. It was great being with them on the bus and being able to hang out with such godly people. The experience made us more mature in our music, as well as in the ministry.

Jen G: Beyond your amazing tours, you guys really have a heart for reaching the hurting. Tell us how BOS found out about Homes for Hope.

Jeremi: Our friend Denny Nissley heads up the ministry “Christ In Action” and offered us the opportunity to partner with him in the disaster relief efforts in New Orleans, which led to our involvement with Homes of Hope.

Jen G: And why was it important for BOS to get involved hands-on?

Jeremi: We saw a huge need for help. God really laid it on our hearts to go and try to make a difference in these victims’ lives.

Jen G: Did you guys get to work with or meet people who had been through Hurricane Katrina?

Jeremi: Most definitely! We stayed with one family for about a week who had lost everything from the hurricane. Throughout that week, we met a lot of people who went through the storm and had the opportunity to hear countless stories of rescue efforts and survival.

Jen G: How did seeing the effects of Hurricane Katrina and its victims reach your hearts?

Jeremi: I had seen the footage on the news and knew that the effects from this storm were devastating. Going there and getting a firsthand account blew my mind. It was way different from what the media was showing. Hearing all the stories and seeing all the destruction from this storm directly from those who went through it was incredible. These people lost literally everything they had. It was terrible. It really put things into perspective.
